How’s the serenity?
I am aching a little tonight – the culmination of two days (okay half-days) of riding horses to help with the preg-test muster, and then (in a fit of joining-in-ed-ness) I took part in a small hike at a local tourist spot yesterday. A walk that I was supremely unprepared for. It wasn’t long (a couple of kms) but it was steep in parts and my grindy knees really let me know about it. So did those muscles I used to own in the thigh and butt department. Yowser.
Twas embarrassing really – a gaggle of kids (including six-year-olds) did three times the distance I did and romped it in. As I am related to all of them so I kept my shame to myself. Just huffed and puffed and stopped to take photos a lot. (You know Nikons are handy for ALL kinds of reasons!)
However, the pikelets-and-plum-jam-and-cream beside the lake just up the road more than made up for my near-heart-attack. (Yes, I am aware of the irony of that statement!)
There is just something about water and the stillness of the afternoon, don’t you agree?
Even if there were some testosterone-charged shenanigans going on in this supremely peaceful setting…
I managed to ignore the stick/log action* as the sun worked a little magic on the smooth water of the dam. (*Please note that nobody lost an eye.)
Girls are MUCH more peaceful creatures to observe… even if the one on the right DID write in the dust on the back of my Prado. Girls are sneaky. Quiet and sneaky…
I think if everyone on the globe got just five minutes a week of a sun setting over quiet water, there would be world peace.
I am so good at fixing the problems of the world. The issue of harnessing the boyish gusto of my nine-year-old son… not so much. He wasn’t really into the sunset. It was daggars at dusk.
Heh.
So …who knows the movie from which the title of this post comes? One of my all-time favourite flicks… actually I gave this movie away one time but it failed to play for the American winner. I learned that you cannot send DVD movies from one country to another – apparently the rest of the world knows this already. I want to give away Aussie music and movies so I will have to work a way around it. Hmmmm.
So I can try to give The Castle (clip here) away again. And some Jimmy Barnes albums. (Please note: my patient peeps who have won prints – I haven’t forgotten you! I am getting there – make sure you have let me know what print you are after though!)
In the meantime, I give you Duck on Orange Water.

Irony or not there are some things that are worth the risk…
And I could look at your sunset photos and feel instant calm.
Thank you for sharing.
