River therapy

It’s been another crazy weekend here on the property… it’s been hot and humid with some juicy storms, the kids have been on their first days of the Christmas holidays and we have had friends visiting.

These friends are long-time institutions in our lives – one of my husband’s best mates and his sweet wife, visiting to help with some serious projects around the Granite Glen house. They are from Brisbane and worked long and hard on our projects (as you do on a weekend off in the country) and were rewarded with lots of swims, some beers (him) and a drive sans kids to the river (her).

Taking a break from our offspring (all five in the tender care of their fathers) we packed wine and camera into the car and headed off, to check out the Big Bridge at the river.

We took chardonnay (as you do) and soaked in some of the incomparable peace…

The only sounds were birds calling and water dripping from the bridge edge…

The evidence of January’s floods still decorating tree branches along the waters’ edge.

Green. Water. Wildlife. Quiet.

We decided that just a day a year of this, for every person in the world, would probably ensure world peace.

Or I might have said this long-held belief out loud, while she nodded (and wished I’d shut up to let her soak in the sweet nothingness of that moment?).

And then the soft drops of rain chasing us all home, to our families once more.

It’s so beautiful, I think I need to visit here more – but it was great to have the excuse to go there today.
