Flower confession time

I have to admit it…
I have a strange flower fetish.
gerbera_1400
It’s to do with bunches of flowers…
I cannot leave them mixed.
Our Small Town only offers mixed bunches of flowers
– either lilies-and-gerberas or native-banksias-and-waratahs –
which I purchase and then attack immediately upon arriving home.
I have to carefully separate the lilies
from the gerberas
and the greenery.
Separate vases.
Can’t stand them all mixed up.
What on earth this says about me, I don’t know.
(And, to be frank, I am not sure I want to!)

So let us ignore my obvious control issues,
and instead let us feast our eyes upon the beauty of the gerbera.

This is surely my favourite flower…
I adore the delicate clean daisy-like formation.
Simple, colourful, striking, non-perfumed.
(I have a sensitive, sneezy kinda nose
– and a it’s ludicrous little sneeze at that).

The gerbera were my wedding posy flower – no fuss, no worries.
And you know what – in the garden they are almost indestructible.
They thrive on neglect – utterly my kinda flower.
I predict mass plantings of these plants in the Granite Glen garden.
I am a mass plantings kinda girl too.
Again with the no-mix thing…
Of course the one thing about gerberas is that
when they are done,
they are DONE.

A little like me.
What kind of flower rings your bells,
makes your skirt fly up,
or just makes you smile?

Gorgeous photos! I love Gerbera daisies. They're bright, cheerful, and simple. My favorite flowers are always the ones I see growing in the wild, though. Sometimes my husband brings me bouquets of storebought roses, but truly I'm just as happy with a handful of freshly picked wildflowers. I'm going to buy some more wildflower seed to plant either in September or next spring. (I have to check again to see when the best time is.) Hopefully we'll have all of our ground that isn't flat covered in wildflowers one of these days. That should make mowing easier too;o)

I like violets. And forget-me-nots. Teeny tiny flowers that don't really do well in vases. What this says about me, I don't know either, but they don't make me sneeze and mine is not a ludicrous little sneeze.

Lovely shots! I like wildflowers, but my real passion is roses, especially Hybrid Tea Roses! I love the fragrance they give as well as the showy flowers.

Hee hee! I'm kind of like that about flowers too, I think it's too busy when they are mixed. I won a gerbera daisy in a pot at a baby shower, and it's totally wilted over. For some reason, maybe it was too hot? I kept it well-watered! But I think it's a goner.
Beautiful color of daisy in your photos!

I love gerbera flowers too. They have always been my favorite. I love the way they look. Their presentation is striking and elegant. They are so varying in colors that you never get tired of them and when I see them, a smile always creeps onto my face. Thank you so much for sharing the pictures and I love your thoughts too. 🙂

Hmmm… a bit OCD perhaps?? (I certainly am) …and how do you eat your M&Ms??

I think gerberas are quite pretty. My favorites are probably pansies, moonflowers, hibiscus, camillias…I don't know, there are lots I like!

Sweet Peas. Rich, jewel toned colors. Sweet, light, clean fragrance. Bloom in the summer and lazily climb towards the sun. Happy to be picked to come inside, they will brighten everything around them in a natural way. The vines die off in the fall and they rest peacefully, asking nothing of anyone until they bloom again bringing memories of long, sweet, fragrant summer days. Yup, Sweet Peas.

Just needed to pop back to point out (Kelly) that I am NOT OCD in any other area… my husband WISHES I was an OCD housekeeper (actually so do I!). It's to do with keeping the colours and 'busy-ness' out of the arrangement I think.

Of course I also love lavendar, old-fashioned roses and tulips too. But gerberas are survivors. And I do like a good survivor!
    🙂

PS Debby I am sneezing as I write this (it's the roses!). And my sneezes are tiny on the outside, but tsunami like on the inside!!

Sweet Peas and Freesia ring my bell, Oh, and Lily of the Valley…I just love the strong fragrance of them (lucky no allergies for me)…I love Gerberas too, the colours are so vividly bright. Your photos are just beautiful – well done.
Did you see that video of the wedding party dancing their way into the church, the girls were carrying Gerberas as their posies, they (Gerberas) got pretty rocked around during that dancing but stood up to it.

    Have a great weekend.

Yeah, that is a bit crazy girl 🙂 I LOVE gerbers! They used to be my favorite flower but i've switched to hydrangea as of late. Love them! So fluffy and feminine.

Love Gerberas, they're such happy flowers though I'm partial to bright oranges mixed with pinks – LOUD and happy lol.

From nursing training with an old-fashioned charge sister we were firmly told to always separate patients' red and white flowers as they represent blood and bandages dating back to the Crimean War (red and white on barber poles represents the same as barbers were once surgeons).
