Real rain…

Having spent some serious time living in the Big Smoke, I know that sometimes people who live in cities their whole lives can become a little bemused by the degree of excitement with which rain is welcomed by their country counterparts…

After going for a drive this week to check on the new water level of the big dam which backs up into our property, I took some shots which I realised would contrast with some I took at the same places during The Dry.

(I used some of the other photos taken in this post – when I got just a little carried away with news that Oprah was coming to Australia*.)

So, to illustrate…

(Same fence, slightly different angle)

And while I am not sure my husband is THRILLED about having to fix all the river crossings (fences which stretch across the river and get knocked down every time there is a run of water flowing down the river to the dam) it is WONDERFUL to not have to worry about pumping water to thirsty cattle…

They now have a smorgasboard of pasture and watering holes to choose from!  And they are all feeling mighty playful

And the wildlife… oy…

Ducks, turtles and a gazillion noisy unseen frogs have descended…and there is currently one enormous waterfront celebration to which all and sundry are invited… and the rain doesn’t seem to have finished.  More predicted this weekend.  Bring it on, Huey… the party has only just begun.

*The offer still stands Oprah!

when we first moved back to the bush. Tweren't pretty.

How bout you?

Is the weather cause for celebration at your place?

Are the wildlife frolicking or preparing to hibernate?

Weather is one thing we humans have to admit we have no control over. It is a wonder and a mystery. A plague and a blessing. Here in SE Idaho U.S.A. it is blue skies and leaves turning orange. After some nasty cold and windy days this one is a keeper.

    Like Dash’s hat a lot.

Been raining down hard here all day. My SO is a landscaper so the rain is a welcome blessing, even though we are city dwellers at the moment.

Those cows sure look happy about their greener pastures. 🙂

The weather up here in Washington state, USA, I live in SW Washington, well it has been wet! I believe our Fall is creeping up on us fast. When I went out to feed the horses tonight, I got stuck in the barn for 10 min or so waiting out a downpour! It has been 70F and so muggy the last three days. LOL I hope we get an Indian Summer this year, we had a long wet Spring, and that would be so nice, to have a warm Fall.

I’m loving the rain this morning, too, in rural southwestern Iowa. It’s currently 48F and the thunder has slacked off, but the rain is still with us. Our temps have really see-sawed lately, but at least the hot, hot weather is gone.

Here in the valley of the great Ohio River USA … we had a tornado in the neighborhood Thursday evening. This is very unusual in hill country. Over all we need rain to prevent the falling leaves and forest from going all ablaze. Have a fun day!

Here in the wet, wet, wet Waikato (wai menaing water in Maori), it’s lived up to its name this year! Seems like we’ve had rain nearly every day for the last 2+ months. The Waikato river is in flood, and water is being released from Taupo and Karapiro through hyrdo dams to mange flow/minimise further flooding. I’d be happy to send as much as I can your way! Roll on spring…

Hey Lindsay – thanks for sharing your New Zealand weather with us! I wish you could REALLY share, but I know you guys need that rain to keep it so green your eyes hurt!! Must get there some day to explore for real…

Looking (praying) for rain again. Grass is green, but the tease of coming autumn was only that. It is nearly 100 again. **Sigh** We’ll survive–unless we go bankrupt trying to stay cool enough–at 78 to 80 degrees in the house.

It’s not all bad, however. God is always good and blessing still flow continually. Rain will come again. Sometime! Y’all enjoy yours while you can. Life/Rain. Rain/live.

In northern California, we hoped for our first rain of the season. Autumn/Fall begins in a few days; the trees sport colorful crowns already. We have had the coldest summer in over 40 years and many places broke records with incredibly cold nights that do not bode well for a mild winter. We do not get snow here at sea level yet our solar water heater froze one night and cracked the manifold! For that misfortune trade-off I would like to have seen the beauty of Snow !~!
