Wishes and kisses

I am not sure how many of you Mums out there did what I did… and went and had their baby RIGHT near Christmas?  Talk about terrible timing, right?

Our darling daughter is a December child and has always lived with sharing her Big Day with Yuletide celebrations.  And this year – with Christmas parties and Santa gifts already underway, the mix of the two is clear (or muddy?).

Luckily Violet is a sunny little woman (for the most part) and – as long as something horsey or purty makes its way into her hot little hands on December 14 each year – she’s happy.  This morning she got some MORE Schleich horses, along with a four-wheel-drive and horse float (trailer) to cart them to all those imaginary campdrafts and pony club meets.  And purple jodphurs. And two hand-painted pottery bears (?) from her brother (which he wrapped at 4.30am this morning).

She wanted a party (which I have kind of organised, but already discovered that I have forgotten the balloons) and homemade sausage rolls (underway).

Of course, the one thing she REALLY wants for a gift, is something we cannot really give her.

Luckily ‘Santa’ gave her the next best thing – a book about it!  If anyone wants to leave a message in comments I promise to read it to her.

🙂

Happy Birthday, Violet! When I was little, a friend has his birthday ON Christmas Day–his family used to pick a random day in summer and have his party with friends (since Christmas is generally a family time for so many) but it sounds like you lucked out–in your corner of the world it IS summer for your birthday! Wishing you many happy returns!

(mom may not want to read this one) There was a time when I had over 400 Breyer horses. Used to get them for every birthday, every Christmas, and even bought a few for myself with allowance or earnings. http://www.breyerhorses.com/index.php STILL cherish the ones I have, and I’m a grown-up with kids of my own.

Beautiful Violet, I wish you a very happy birthday all the way from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. My parents sang me that same song every year but that was because I broke my two front teeth when I was eight years old (and before that, I knocked out my front tooth, my baby tooth, when I was five, the day before my very first school photo! I haven’t had much luck with front teeth.) And what did I go and do when I was a grown up? I married a DENTIST! Everyone in my family thinks that’s very funny.

Also, my husband (the dentist) comes from a family of seven, and two of his brothers were born on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. What they remember was their mother having to go to hospital and not being around to cook Christmas dinner both times, which meant their father had to roast the turkey. Their father knew as much about cooking as they did about rocket science. So both times he cooked the turkey, and all through the following week, while their mum was in hospital with the new baby, they ate leftover turkey, specifically turkey soup. Every day. And as the soup disappeared, he just added more water, so by the end of the week they were begging their mother to come home so they wouldn’t have to eat turkey-flavoured water for dinner anymore.

But we always try to bake a cake and sing Happy Birthday to one brother during our “réveillon” (Xmas Eve) and again to the other brother on Xmas Day.

    Have a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

What a FABULOUS collection of messages for our baby girl! I shall print them off and put them with her birthday cards in her room – how lucky to get love from all over the world.

    Thanks you lot. You rock.
